Recently came across a nice list of the organizations that use music to reach youth in Bahia -- a great place to volunteer if you'd like to do so there.

Brazooka at Cafe Wha? on Mondays
Anybody out in blogland been to Cafe Wha? in NYC's Village on a Monday night? Brazooka has been their Monday mainstay -- playing all styles of Brazilian music. I had the pleasure of meeting that band's Robinho Cerqueira (guitar/bandolim/vocals) and he says he's held down the gig for two decades, ever since arriving from his native Bahia. Nice guy -- please say hello next time you're in the neighborhood on a Monday night!
